Description
T4 (Levothyroxine) is a synthetic form of thyroxine, a prohormone produced by the thyroid gland. It is converted peripherally to the active hormone T3 (triiodothyronine), which regulates metabolic rate, thermogenesis, and protein, lipid, and carbohydrate metabolism through thyroid hormone receptor-mediated gene transcription. T4 has a longer half-life than T3, allowing for stable plasma concentrations. It is metabolized primarily in the liver and kidneys
